Richard Swafford is at it again ...

I was browsing Puppyfind ... and noticed a familiar sort of listing.

Just the puppy's name.  "Freckles M1" <--- I recognized the style.

The breeder information:

Alice Andersen
Member Since: January 6th, 2010
Location: Lafayette, TN, United States
Telephone: 615-630-8561

The ad says these particular pups worth $200 and then says:

"50 more with papers BLACKS 250 EA, LILAC MERLES, GIRLS 350 AND BLUE MERLES BOYS 300 EA DEPOSIT OF $150 WILL HOLD! BOTH PARENTS HAVE TWO BLUE EYES COMPARE WITH HIGHER PRICED PUPS, PEDIGREE IS ALSO AVAILABLE YOUR PUP WILL BE THE TALK OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAVE A BLESSED LORDS DAY CKC Registered"

Pretty familiar, no?

If that wasn't enough, I clicked to see all listings by that breeder and found 19 PUPPIES

All pretty circumstantial, eh?  That's what I thought.  Even though the photos are taken in a pretty familiar style also.

So I googled the phone number.

Came up with a link to a Craigslist listing.  Here is the text, because I'm sure the ad will be deleted at some point.

  1. Are Freckles M3, M4 and M5 supposed to be different dogs, cause there not. And Bossie M2 and Bossie F1..they're the same pup. Do they sell them two and three times over too?

  2. Until you know someone and understand the situation, you shouldnt judge or talk bad about them on a post. Richard loved and took care of all his dogs but became overwelmed. He wasnt out beating them or fighting them.

    1. I was at Swafford's place one month before he was busted, and I got a dog from him. The place was a concentration camp. All dogs malnourished, tick and worm infested, living in shit filled pens. Swafford was just as nice as any concentration camp commandant.

  4. No one said anything about him beating or fighting his dogs. The news reports talk about deplorable conditions, too many dog, and even after his sentence where he was not supposed to be involved with dogs, he goes under the alias of "Alice Anderson" ... I think it speaks for itself.

  5. Really, so i guess you read one thing and decided to pass it on. Did you ever learn what you read isnt always the entire truth. What a great person you are for believing hearsay. You should be ashamed for posting about things you dont know anything about. He is a good man and loved those dogs.

  6. I will entertain this for a while, but I assure you, I will grow bored with it pretty quickly. No one said he's not a good man when he's not dealing with dogs, and no one said he didn't love his dogs. I would appreciate it if you would stop putting words in my mouth. I am not ashamed of anything I said, and I'm sorry you feel I should be. I know some of the people who rescued those dogs, and know the condition they were in when rescue pulled them. I'm sorry you don't feel more for the poor, innocent dogs who were stuck in the middle of this. But you don't lay in your own feces, do you?

Fact: Swafford was expelled from the American Border Collie Association. http://www.americanbordercollie.org/news.htm#Dicipline

Fact: Swafford faced animal cruelty charges because he had too many dogs and they were kept in deplorable conditions. http://www.wkrn.com/global/story.asp?s=11200984 Swafford himself said, "...it got out of control."

Fact: He was busted again after being prohibited from owning breeding dogs.

Portland puppy mill breeder busted again
    20 dogs seized

    BY ERIC MILLER
    Gallatin News Examiner
    August 27, 2010

A Portland man who pleaded guilty to running a puppy mill in October 2009 faces new charges of animal cruelty related to possessing nearly 20 dogs.

On Thursday, Aug. 26, Richard T. Swafford, 67, was arrested after Sumner County Sheriff’s deputies seized 20 border collies — 15 puppies and five adults — from a barn at Swafford’s residence on North Center Point Road.

Swafford claims the border collies seized Thursday belonged to another person who was renting barn space from him, according to the affidavit filed in Sumner County General Sessions Court.

He is charged with animal cruelty by violation of the court’s restrictions. Swafford is currently free from Sumner County Jail on $2,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Sept. 10.

    Previous charges

Swafford pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a Sept. 25, 2009 raid at the Border Collie Rescue of Middle Tennessee in Portland. Officials with the Sumner County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Humane Society seized more than 100 dogs living in substandard conditions.

As part of the plea bargain, Swafford, who owned the rescue and breeding operation, was sentenced to two years of probation. As part of his probation, he was prohibited from having any involvement with animals other than a maximum of four house pets.
