Hey Kiva, look! You get to have yet another litter, even though you suck on stock!
YOUR NEW LITTER
Why is that? I'm not sure. Probably because there are people out there breeding Border Collies for everything under the sun except working ability.
Sad.
Again, I'm so sorry, Kiva. I wish I had it to do all over again. How different things would be.
Did I read it right that she had one pup in her last litter with hip dysplasia? shouldn't that be a big flag too?
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends on how you look at it. Is it 1 pup out of 2? Is it 1 pup out of every litter? Or is it 1 pup out of 50? Hip dysplasia is in the breed. Unlike working ability ... It wont disappear on its own.
ReplyDeleteAnd ... In the interest of full disclosure ... The sire of that dysplastic pup is my Zip. If you search the word "Kiva" on my blog ... There are several posts relating to this nightmare.
ReplyDeleteOK, well maybe I overreacted, but it struck me as a bit of a flag for a breeder to continue on with a known issue. But you are right it would depend on #s too. Will have to look back and see what its all about .I compared it in my head to some genetic issues in horses, there is enough good stock without those issues ,why take the chance? But again I don't know the whole story ,yet
ReplyDeleteNope, no reaction. To each their own. And I agree. Kiva's working ability is largely unknown at best, and what little is known ... is not good. Unfortunately, that doesn't matter to her owner.
