Frustrating Day

So ... I left for work this morning without having time to throw something together for breakfast.  No biggie.  There's a Subway right near where I work, and they are now serving (weak, shitty) breakfast and that'll get me by.  So I'm walking over to Subway, and I suddenly remembered that some security thing claiming to be from my bank called the day before and left me a message.  When I called them back, they answered the phone very blandly, like "Security" or "Fraud Department" or something just as generic.  And then they asked me for my phone number even though I gave them the case number they left on my message.  I got skeptical, told them I'd call my bank directly, and hung up.  Then I forgot to call my bank.

When I walked into Subway, I went to the cashier and said, "I have a funny feeling about this ... can we ring me up first please?  Here's what I want."  She agreed and attempted to put it through on my card, which did not work.  I know there was plenty of money in there to cover what I was looking to buy.  I told her that's what I figured and went back to my office and called my bank.

And in the meantime, I pulled up my account online.

Apparently someone stole my card information and created a new card or something, and charged $100 even ... to a Walmart ... in ALABAMA!  Who the hell goes to Alabama on purpose???  Anyway, the fraud department of my bank caught it and immediately canceled my card.  The perps then tried using my card several times after that, to no avail.

For now, I'm out $100.  The bigger hassle is that I had to cancel my bank card, and the replacement takes 10 days to 2 weeks to arrive.  I also had to submit a fraud report to get the $100 back, which will also take a couple of weeks.

Glad they caught this, as those idiots could have cleaned me out and made life suck a whole lot worse.  So really ... should I be complaining?  Probably not.

Another frustration ... losing friends through no fault of my own.  I hate that.  Jealous women suck.  Tell me ... what is the point of getting jealous?  Let's say you're dating some guy, and you notice he likes someone else.  What, pray tell, is getting jealous and all wrapped around the axle going to do for you?  Do you think your man will love you more for acting like a complete idiot?  Normally I would say no.  However, that may be why I'm single, because some men apparently get off on it.  Little did I know.

Oh well.

P.S. - Dinner at Jaenne's was awesome!  I bought over some hearty pork chops from good ol' Wilbur ... and Jaenne cooked them in a yummy sauce and served them with Bisrati rice.  WINNING!  Thanks Jaenne!

A Hunter Among Us

I am officially sick of this weather. I never thought I'd say this, but I am looking forward to summer.

Right up until it gets here, and then I'll whine about that, too, I'm sure.

Well, I attempted to dig part of the irrigation canal from the backyard to the west pasture, but I'm running into a lot of roots. Something other than my little shovel is going to have to get that job done, but I haven't figured out what exactly yet. I did, however, get enough dirt to fill the whiskey barrels and ready them for planting.  I had some leftover potting soil, so I threw that on top.

In the meantime, things are slowly greening up.

There seems to be a new addition to my pasture.  He (I think it's a he ... will check with the neighbor) has been hunting in my pasture all night.

Reese is waiting for me to make the all-coveted psss psss psss "command."  Not happening, Pieces.

200+ Dogs ... a rescue nightmare ...

200 dogs rescued in Marion County

(Marion County, TX) - "You see, that's where they've been living," Caroline Wedding with the Marion County Humane Society, pointing at crates with dogs inside, said. "That is their house. It's as much territory as they're allowed."

Wedding said it was a relative of the property owner that alerted authorities to the nearly 200 dogs, mostly border collie mixes, on the property outside of Jefferson.

Some of the dogs were running free, some were in the crates, and some were in cages a few feet off the ground.

"We're basically cleaning up a mess here, that someone else made," Wedding said.

The property owner, 64 year old John Wilson, is in a mental hospital in Shreveport, LA. Wedding said it's been nearly a month since he's been here, and that's clear just by looking inside the home. It looks like the dogs are being fed, but they may have never seen a vet.

"Sometimes these puppy mill owners are so concerned about someone finding out about their operation, that's one of the reasons they do not go to a vet," Wedding said. "Certainly they have not had their rabies vaccinations, because an individual can't purchase that vaccine."

And there is heart-breaking evidence that some of these dogs are being kept just to breed.

"You can look at the female's teeth," Wedding said. "To keep them from biting the males, when the females come in heat, they file off their teeth."

These dogs are suffering everything from tumors, to mange, to eye infections, and Wedding said they deserve much better.

"This is what everyone doesn't see," Wedding said. "We see the beautiful little things that are on leashes that get a lot of love. But this is where our hearts really need to be, is for these unknown situations, that are crying out for our help."

Wedding said her office has already been contacted by agencies across the country wanting to help. The Marion County DA said when the property owner gets out of the hospital, he faces two charges of animal cruelty.

The Price Is Right!

As luck would have it ... I got the coolest deal this weekend!

I've been wanting a camper shell for my truck.  I haven't really wanted to spend the money on one because it wasn't a priority, so I've just been poking my nose around, seeing what's out there.  I happened to mention it to my friend, Mark, and he poked his nose around a bit.  Turns out a friend of his had one ... the exact size for my truck ... the exact color ... and with the sliding windows and everything!  For free!  Just had to go pick it up!  So I stopped and got come "C" clamps, and my neighbor gave me some of the foam stuff that goes between the shell and the bed of the pickup.  Mark came with me today, and we went and picked it up.  And wowie, was it ever heavy!  I had no idea.  Anyway, we had to jimmy it around a parked truck, etc., but we managed.  It needs a little bit of work, and had some stickers on the windows and stuff, but all in all, a very nice shell.  Check it out.  Here are 1400 photos, as usual.

So this afternoon, I got a few things done.  Remember the doorbell I bought so long ago?  Well, I finally installed it.

I'd post a photo of the in-the-house part of the doorbell, but in the photo I took, there's about 1600 pounds of spiderweb on the wall.  So I'm leaving that one out.

Oh, and I also cleaned the stickers off the back window of the shell.  You know what works great for removing the glue left on the windows from stickers/decals?  Lighter fluid!  Yes.  Just pour some lighter fluid onto a rag or paper towels, and with a bit of patience, the glue comes right off the windows.  See?

Also, my neighbor thinned his daffodils and gave me some.  I've planted them and watered them, and now I have my fingers crossed that they'll grow.  If I transplanted them to late to have them bloom this year, hopefully, they'll come up next year.

Here is a photo of one of the many bushes I've hacked on this spring.  It's getting some good growth on it.  Should be real pretty this year.  Lilac bush, I think?

Here's the wine barrels I haven't filled with dirt yet.

Those were my $10 a piece find.  Pretty cool, eh?

Another one of my neighbors is going to be thinning back some plants and will have some white phlox for me.  Here's a random photo off the internet of what I think she's talking about.

So that should be pretty.  I'll have to find a good place for it.

I bought two new rose bushes and planted those next to the bright red one.  Here are the new colors.  I can't wait for them to bloom!  I hope they turn out as pretty as they show on their little ID cards.

Yuck ... back to work tomorrow.

Dillusions of Grandeur

Well, I'm completely exhausted after reading Jaenne's blog!  But it got me feeling like a schlepp, so I started thinking about what my plans are for the next few months.  Thankfully, my schedule is not nearly as nuts as hers!

My to-do list to complete in between fun stuff ... in no particular order ... but I've numbered them ... because.  This will be a good way to make me accountable for getting all of this stuff done.

1.  Fill up the whiskey barrels on the patio and get them planted with herbs and morning glory.  (This is more of a pain in the ass because of trying to find dirt to haul over there.

2.  Dig the irrigation ditch between the privacy fence and the west pasture.  Load dirt and put some of it in the whiskey barrels.

3.  Burn the huge pile of crap in the driveway.

4.  Arrange the railroad ties to start the garden.

5.  Germinate seeds for the garden.

6.  Fix the gate for the round pen.

7.  Worm sheep, trim hooves, and clip mohawks.

8.  Use bricks as trim around the rocks under the living room window and figure out what kind of walkway to do to the back deck.

9.  Fence off some of the weeds on the other side of the irrigation canal so we can have the sheep graze it.

10.  Groom Zip.

11.  Electric fence in the front pasture.

12.  Find a horse water trough.

13.  Dig out my irrigation access area (huge).

14.  Finish painting the dog room and get everything hung up and organized.

That's all I can think of for now.  Oh wait.

15.  Kick Zip's hairy ass.

Why you ask?

Let's see.  I went to the store last night.  I bought, among other things, a ten pound bag of flour....

... that is now in my shop vac.  Thank you, Zippy.

Here's something a little cooler.  I went shopping with Mark on Saturday.  Stopped at D&B and got duck food, wormer for the sheep, etc.  Also went to a couple of antique stores and picked up a few cool things (an old pair of sheep clippers among them...), and then went to a couple of western tack/saddle shops.  One of them was out in Caldwell, and I picked up a few horseshoe hooks.  Brought them home and asked my neighbor if he wouldn't mind mounting the three hooks on a piece of wood for me.  Well, I went over to the neighbors' today, and was sitting there chatting, when Brooke said, "Well what do you think?" and pointed at the rack that was leaned up against the wall damned near right in front of me.  It was gorgeous!  So I thanked Dean for the lovely job he did on it ... it was perfect!  So we sat and talked for about an hour, all the while I was so impressed with his woodworking skills.  As I was leaving, he said, "By the way, Tommy made that."  LOL!  Tommy ... the contractor that did my dog room for me!  Anyway ... here it is.

Can't wait to see it hung in the dog room.  I love the hooks on it because they'll hold 1400 leashes, 800 collars, and all of the ropes and things I usually hang from these types of things.  I've been wanting to do this for a while, and it's finally done.  Woo hoo!  Now I can hang the other, ancient, reminder-of-the-drunken-ex-husband in the garage for tack.

Colleen is down in the Twin Falls area for work this week.  She'll be coming up this weekend.  There's a group of us going out to dinner at that good sushi place in Meridian, Sa Wad Dee, and then Colleen will spend the night at my place.  On Saturday, provided the weather cooperates, we'll be going riding.  Then she takes off on Sunday morning, and Mark and I will head over to one of his friend's houses to pick up a camper shell for my truck.

Oh, I also put the trailer into the shop to have it re-wired.  So the next time I see it, it will be road worthy.  It will still need work to make it comfortable, but it's functional, at least.  It will be a while before I can afford to have it sandblasted and painted, but it will get done.  I'll also have new tires put on it, too.  I don't mind dumping a bit of money into it since a) I got it for a song; and b) I've wanted one for so long.  And this one seems like a good one.

Katie's services were today.  That was tough, and I'm wiped out.  Off to bed,
J

Sara Evans - Count me out ...

Well, I liked Sara Evans at one point enough to go see one of her shows.  To say I was not impressed with the live show would be putting it lightly.  It was all about ... her.  She didn't introduce anyone in her band.  The band would come on first, and then she makes her grand entrance ... and when she's done, she walks off, and the band finishes off the song and then leaves the stage.  Really really poor.

But here's the latest.

She wants to have a baby with her new hubby

However...

She doesn't want it to affect her figure, or interrupt her drinking habits.

Amazing what a little success does to a person.

You see it everywhere.

Even in sheep trialing ... which is truly pathetic.

Sad.

Caught a Rainbow...

What a gorgeous day!  I haven't gotten a whole lot done, but just been putzing with this or that.  The half-barrels are in place on the deck, and are half filled with gravel from around the front yard.  They are ready for dirt and to be planted.

I went to D&B today and bought a few things, one of which was a red rose bush.  It's time to actually start planting things around here instead of just cleaning up all of the time.  I put the rose bush in a place that I hope it does well, but it might not get enough sun.  If I see it's not getting enough sun, I'll just move it.  Anyway ...

I was outside fartin' around, and looked over my shoulder and saw this.  Sorry ... there are many photos of it.  It's not often I get a rainbow right over my house ... or that I have my camera handy when it happens.

From my deck.

From my front yard:

Here's my rose bush.  Sorry ... it was raining and I didn't want to get my camera wet.  Was just a quick half-blind shot.

And I forgot about these.  This is one of those little pieces of evidence that someone once cared about this place.  I'll have to expand on these at some point.

Not looking forward to going back to work.
