Inspected

Had the house inspection yesterday. Took the day off and took Zip with me. There were no big surprises. There are some things that will need to be fixed, so I am just keeping my fingers crossed that the seller and my lender get it all worked out. Zip had a good time playing in the irrigation canal, and convincing anyone within 100' of him to throw whatever he could find and toss at their feet. There is no shortage of material at this place -- that's for sure. I will spend months cleaning it up.

Came home, made some food, took a nap, and then cleaned out what little there was in the third bedroom. Once vacuumed, this room is ready to go. Went for a late night bike ride. It was gorgeous out.

Still looking for a name for this blog/ranch/kennel/whatever. I'm sure something will materialize.

Slept like crap. Someone please turn the heat off.

Thanks.
Jodi

Here are a few photos from the Athena trial.

Dianne Deal's Zorro:

I don't remember whose dog this is.

Susan Lindstedt:

My Echo in her 20 seconds on the field:

Karen Mahoney (seen her name spelled a bunch of different ways, so if I butchered it, I apologize):

Jaenne Surrett and Mo:

These look like they were from Sunday. I did not take many pictures at all, and the ones I did take were mainly of Jaenne and Mo. This was their pro-novice debut and they did great! They took 8th or something the first day ... and not sure how they ended up the second day. These two are really becoming quite a team!

That's all folks!

What's in a Name?

Well, the name "Hay Ewe" came about one afternoon while my ex-husband was in his usual drunken stupor, and I thought it was entertaining, so the name stuck.

However, there are big changes going on here. Shedding myself of the ex is one of them, so the Hay Ewe name has got to go. I'd love some suggestions.

Here are some things about the new ranchette and the surrounding area:

City: Nampa
County: Canyon County
Lake: Lake Lowell
State: Idaho
Street: Lake Shore Drive

On Lake Lowell, right across from my house, is the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. There are tons of different birds that can be seen there, including red tailed hawks, bald eagles, blue heron, geese, etc. There are also deer, elk, and coyotes, among many other animals.

One of my good friends mentioned the black and white theme I seem to carry between my dogs, my sheep, my opinions, and the house itself. She suggested "Domino Ranch" ... and while I like the ring, it doesn't quite fit. But I'd be open to black/white ideas also.

The house easily qualifies as a "fixer-upper" and is surrounded by a lot of crops. There is a gorgeous nursery down the street.

Anyway, I'm just tossing things out there. If anyone has any ideas, or would like more information about the area or whatever, please let me know. But please bring all creative/funny/whacky ideas to the front of the line!

Happy tails,
Jodi

Couldn't Decide ...

Whether to pack my house or start dismantling my pasture.

So I washed my truck. Isn't it pretty?

Sounds Like Life To Me

Friday night ... went to the Canyon County fair and did some demos. The Couch's provided their trademark lambs just for the occasion. Echo lived up to her name. We crated her and brought out Mr. Trusty Dusty Zip. He did well. Not great ... and I am sure he wanted to upgrade to a better model handler. I have pictures and will edit them as soon as I get a chance.

Saturday ... all day ... was spent at this house, cleaning and packing and taking everything down off the walls and such. Spending time by myself like that makes me pretty self-reflective. I'm not sure how accurate the self-reflection is, but since it's mine, you can't do anything about it anyway. On the radio was Darryl Worley singing, "Sounds like life to me..." and it made me think of me. It's a song about his buddy calling him up and dribbling on about all sort of problems, and Darryl saying, "Sounds like life to me it ain’t no fantasy, It’s just a common case of everyday reality,
Man I know it’s tough but you gotta suck it up, To hear you talk you’re caught up in some tragedy ... It sounds like life to me."

I think that sums me up pretty well. I worry, I panic and I make things out to be much bigger than they are. Probably can't do a damn thing about it, but it certainly made me think. Moving on ...

Saturday evening, I rode my bicycle down to Cloverdale and Amity. They have a new, very hip bar down there called the Twisted Timber. Loved it! Had a couple of beers and rode home.

Sunday morning, I got up and went see my house before heading to Janie's. When I let Zip out of the truck, it seemed to me that he'd never seen this place before. He walked up the "walkway" to the back patio, and just as he did, a great blue heron took flight right out of my front pasture! Imagine that! A blue heron ... at my house! I love it. So I sat on the porch for a while and let Zip check the place out. When he was done, he came over and nudged himself under my arm. I sat there with him looking out over the Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge, and hung on to him and just cried. I can't believe I am actually buying a house. I hope nothing gets fucked up between now and September 9th.

Headed over to Janie's. She was in her doll studio. She showed me around what she was working on and we chatted about 1800's china dolls and their restorations for about an hour. Her website is Antique Child. Check it out.

After that, we went out to her back pasture and barn where she keeps all the ducks. I got to watch her feed, collect eggs, check on nests, and then we chatted about the ducks while they went about their normal morning routines, quacking away, following eachother around, eating scratch, grazing in the grass, and just being as cute as can be. There was one momma with quite a few babies and that was awesome to see. She also has one pretty feisty duck sitting on a nest and she would not move. Can't wait to see what her babies look like.

From Janie's, we headed over to my new house so I could take some pictures and we could toss some ideas around.

This lovely tree needs to be topped to see if we can bring it back to life.

And this is another giant lovely tree that needs some TLC.

The front pasture (Photo taken near the end of the driveway.):

The other pasture (this is the one with the mobile home in it).

Here's the mobile home.

The west end of the property.

Looking west to east. My property ends at the big bush near the sign:

Some lucky sap will get this for free as soon as I own it.

Looking down the curved driveway towards the street:

Part of the view from the deck.

See, Mark? I turned them up the right way!

Looks like maybe a leftover cute garden entry that is now completely overgrown.

I sure can't wait to unbury all of this and get it all cleaned up. Here's a nice little shelter.

This is looking (or trying) into my property from me standing on the bank of the irrigation canal. I can't wait to take down all of this privacy fencing so I have a view. In the center of the photo is the roof of the shelter from the previous shot.

This is my neighbor's pasture east of my house. Note to self: Bring lots of beer when you go introduce yourself. (Could you see the trial happening? I can!)

The view from behind my house.

The irrigation canal I am standing on the banks of while taking these shots.

The dining room.

Looking down the hall into my bedroom.

Back outside ... the tree that needs topping.

A nice old bush. No, not old. What does Janie call it? Oh yea. "Mature."

My favorite part of the house itself.

View from my back deck area east ...

View over my pasture towards the end of the driveway (taken from the opposite corner as one of the earlier shots).

The view of the Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge. The water to Lake Lowell is just beyond those trees a bit.

I think that about covers it. The inspection is Wednesday morning. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that all goes well and escrow goes quickly and painlessly.

Happy tails!
Jodi
